Candle Care Guide
A beautiful candle deserves a beautiful burn. And while our candles don't require a degree in candle science, a little care goes a long way.
Here are a few simple tips to help you get the most out of your Luxe & Lit Co. candle.
Because the only drama we want is in the fragrance.
1. Trim That Wick ✂️
Before each burn, trim your wick to approximately ¼ inch.
A properly trimmed wick helps maintain a steady flame and reduces excess smoke, soot, and that little mushroom-shaped buildup at the tip.
Think of it as giving your candle a quick haircut. Nothing fancy. Just a little maintenance before the glow-up.
Always let your candle cool completely before trimming.
2. First Impressions Matter 🕯️
On your first burn, give the wax time to melt toward the edges of the container.
This helps prevent tunneling, which happens when the candle burns straight down the middle and leaves perfectly good wax hanging out along the sides.
We paid for that wax. We'd like you to enjoy it.
A little wax remaining near the edges isn't necessarily a problem, though. Some candles catch up during later burns.
3. Don't Make It a Marathon ⏰
For most container candles, 2–4 hours per burn is a good general guideline.
Always follow the burn-time instructions on your candle's label.
Your candle doesn't need to work a double shift. Neither do you.
Give it a break, let it cool, and enjoy it again later.
4. Location, Location, Location 🏡
Place your candle on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface. A heat-resistant coaster or tray can help protect your furniture.
Keep the flame away from curtains, papers, decorations, and anything else that could catch fire.
And please keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.
We love a cozy atmosphere. We do not love unexpected renovations.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Even if you're just stepping away for a "minute." If you're like me a minute is never just a minute.
5. Keep the Wax Pool Clean ✨
Keep matches, wick trimmings, and other debris out of your candle's wax.
Don't add water, extra fragrance oil, or mystery ingredients.
We already made the candle. No additional recipes are required.
If your candle includes decorative elements, follow its specific instructions before lighting.
6. Extinguish With Care 💨
Gently blow out your candle or use a candle snuffer.
Make sure the flame is completely out, and allow the wax and container to cool before moving or relighting.
Please do not use a leaf blower.
And if you do, and the flame somehow survives, we respectfully suggest you investigate the possibility of divine intervention.
7. Know When to Say Goodbye 👋
Stop burning your candle when approximately ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container, unless the product label instructs you to stop sooner.
Burning all the way to the bottom can cause the container to overheat.
We know. Goodbyes are hard.
But that last little bit of wax isn't worth sacrificing your favorite coffee table.
Also, never burn a candle in a cracked or damaged container.
The good news? Goodbye doesn't have to mean goodbye forever.

8. Give Your Candles a Nice Place to Live ☀️
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Sunlight and temperature changes can affect the wax's appearance, fragrance, and color.
And if your candle develops a little discoloration or an unusual wax texture, don't panic. Some cosmetic changes are normal with certain waxes.
Your candle isn't having an identity crisis. It's just wax being wax.
